New ESRC Seminar Series on The Potentials, Politics and Practices of International Education Assessment
11 Aug 2014
A new ESRC seminar series on the role of international assessment in education policy will be launched in Edinburgh later this year. International education assessments have become the lifeblood of education governance in Europe and globally. This seminar series aims to explore the potentials, politics and practices of global education comparisons. It will bring a range of actors together, such as academic researchers, testing agencies and end users.
The opening seminar at SPS in Edinburgh (Dec 2014 or Jan 2015) will include a public lecture by Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at the OECD, and plenary presentations by Professor Stephen Ball (Institute of Education), Professor Jenny Ozga (University of Oxford), and Sotiria Grek (University of Edinburgh). The series will continue with seminars at the Columbia Teachers College in New York City, the University of the Pacific in Lima, Peru, the Universities of East Anglia and Lancaster and will finish off with the final seminar in Brussels, Belgium.
