SKAPE is launched with symposium on Open Science, Open Policy

02 Jul 2014

SKAPE was officially launched last Thursday 26th June, with a symposium on Open Science, Open Policy: Contemporary Governance and the Challenges of Knowledge Democratisation

Our three speakers - Jill Rutter (Institute for Government), Albert Weale (UCL) and Steve Yearley (SKAPE Co-Director) - presented their reflections on the 'openness' turn in both science and policy making, and how the two are related. The discussion raised a number of intriguing questions about the different political and ethical rationales for open policy making; different mechanisms for trying to achieve it; and problems with implementation.

The event was held in Edinburgh University's Business School, and was attended by around 80. It was introduced by the Head of School, Fiona Mackay, and chaired by SKAPE Co-Director Christina Boswell.

Our three speakers will be posting blogs on their talks over the next few days. Please see our blog site for more details.
