Dr Martyn Pickersgill wins British Academy Rising Start Engagement Award

Dr Martyn Pickersgill, Wellcome Trust Reader in Social Studies of Biomedicine and SKAPE Associate Director, has recently won a British Academy Rising Star Engagement Award.
Recipients must be within ten years of the award of their doctorate, and work within any area of the humanities and social sciences. Current awardees include “some of the most promising and talented academic minds in the country”. Martyn’s project asks ‘How Should Social Science Inform Policy?’, and features events on global health, neuroscience and social policy, and mental health. Speakers include members of the House of Commons, Scottish Government, BBSRC and the WHO. Martyn has also been appointed Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney. During his visit, Martyn will give a lecture on Law, Science and Psychiatry: On the Construction of Pathological Antisociality within Mental Health’, as well as facilitate a public engagement event asking, ‘What role should US psychiatric categories play in Australian mental health?’.
