SKAPE: Teaching & Mentoring

Teaching & Mentoring

SKAPE is committed to helping lead and shape the emerging field of knowledge and policy studies.

Members of SKAPE contribute to an innovative interdisciplinary undergraduate course 'Knowledge, Expertise and Policy' led by SKAPE member Dr. Eugenia Rodrigues. This course helps introduce undergraduates to urgent academic and policy debates regarding evidence, expertise, science and society.

Our members are actively involved in supervising and mentoring early and mid-career researchers working on the relationship between science, knowledge and policy and we welcome scholars with an interest in this field at all career stages. PhD students are currently represented on the SKAPE Steering Group by Justyna Bandola-Gill, and early and mid career researchers by Dr. Ellen Stewart. All members are invited to contribute to strategic planning discussons at the regular SKAPE away days.

In addition to supervising PhD and postdoctoral researchers, SKAPE members work to support early career colleagues working on relevant topics in a number of other ways, including:

  • Using SKAPE seminars as opportunities to provide constructive feedback on draft articles, conference presentations and research grant applications
  • Hosting visiting postdoctoral scholars working on issues of relevance to SKAPE
  • Providing funding for occassional workshops and support to attend relevant conferences and other events
  • Supporting early career researchers to develop proposals for monographs in the Palgrave book series on Science, Knowledge and Policy.
