Knowledge, expertise and education policy during Covid-19
On 27 April, we welcome Jenny Ozga (University of Oxford) to SKAPE as part of our seminar series. The talk will be chaired by Professor Sotiria Grek (University of Edinburgh).
Throughout the pandemic, and into the so-called ‘recovery’ period in the UK, tensions have arisen around school closures, policy for national examinations, the role and delivery of distance learning, or how higher education should be delivered. Powerful knowledge actors (OECD, World Bank) have identified a ‘silver lining’ of opportunity for radical thinking about future provision, but national systems-including within the UK-seem to be responding differently. Recent research, reported in this seminar, identifies the knowledge actors and experts engaged in these debates, and asks who was and is contributing to policy direction-both in the management of Covid 19 since March 2020, and in the planning for recovery? What kinds of knowledge and expertise do they draw on? How important is political leadership and politics in defining the role played by knowledge and expertise in education recovery?
This SKAPE seminar will take place in a hybrid format.
For anyone wishing to join us in person, we will be in the Chrystal Macmillan Building, Room 3.15.
The seminar will also be available for remote participants who wish to join online via Zoom (for link details, please email the Co-Directors – if you are already a member/associate member of SKAPE, then you will receive a Zoom link two days before the start of the event).
